OUR MISSION​

Girls Inc. of New York City inspires all girls to be strong, smart, and bold, delivering life transforming programs to girls, young women, and gender-expansive young people throughout New York City. Through education and advocacy, we prepare girls to navigate gender, economic, and social barriers to advance a more equitable world.

Girls Inc. of NYC is an independent, 501(c)(3) nonprofit, operating separately from the Girls Inc. national office. Every day, Girls Inc. of NYC is on the ground, delivering services that reach 10,000 young people at sites across the Bronx, Brooklyn, Queens, and Manhattan.

Girls, young, women, and gender-expansive youth have the right to:

2. Express themselves with originality and enthusiasm.

5. Have confidence in themselves and to be safe in the world.

 

6. Prepare for interesting work and economic independence.

OUR IMPACT

OUR STUDENTS

  • Girls Inc. of NYC serves 10,000 girls, young women, and gender-expansive youth ages 11 to 21+ from diverse ethnic, racial, and socio-economic backgrounds across New York City.

  • 45% of students we serve are ages 12–18, reflecting our focus on working with girls during the crucial developmental years of middle and high school.

  • 68% of students at schools where GINYC has a partnership identify as girls of color.

    • Significantly higher proportions of participants identify as girls of color where we operate comprehensive programs (78%) and the signature programs Her Future (77%) and Generation Giga Girls (91%)

  • Nearly 70% of program participants are from families with annual incomes of $25,000 or less.

  • The majority of our students are from single-parent households headed by women.

  • 35% of students come from families where English is not their first language.
