Elevate Her Essence was our largest citywide conference yet!

On March 27, Girls Inc. of New York City brought together more than 1,000 girls and gender-expansive youth from middle and high schools across NYC for a conference centered on mental health and self-care. Through self-led activity stations, small-group workshops, and mainstage educational presentations, the conference offered several practical ways students could manage their mental health.

Students explored their creativity and practiced self-affirmation through art therapy with the Art Therapy Project. They also participated in Overcoming Fear storytelling circles and were provided tranquil spaces for journaling and reflection. BEtime’s bus studio provided students with a serene space for self-guided meditation.

Students built strength and endurance through physical fitness classes with Blink Fitness, Forward Space, and MF Strong. They also created mindfulness tools, such as aromatherapy, affirmation cards and bracelets, and candle making.

On the main stage, doctors from the Period Education Project provided students with medically accurate information and answered questions about menstrual health, aiming to minimize stigma and alleviate anxiety related to the topic. Activist athlete and On the Outside podcast host Taylor Rae Almonte-Roman moderated a panel discussion with Teen Leadership Circle (TLC) peer leaders, who shared their advice for navigating mental health challenges while balancing school, family, social life, and personal growth.
